  • Standard 30-credit Coursera route. No student fees per Bursar. Repeated/additional study and personal expenses excluded. Other CU degree billing arrangements do not share this rate.

Travel, living costs, supplies, financing, and future rate changes may affect your budget. Loans finance a price; they do not reduce it.

Admissions and preparation

Complete the designated three-course pathway with B or better in each course, a cumulative 3.0 and degree-intent requirements. No conventional application, prior degree, transcripts or GRE required. Strong computer science, programming and mathematics preparation is expected.

This is a graduate AI curriculum, rather than a general introduction to using AI applications. Investigate it when you want to understand methods, their implementation and the reasoning needed to evaluate them. A clear learning goal matters because interest in a fast-changing field can otherwise lead to choosing a degree before identifying the capabilities it should develop. Compare the required academic work with the problems you want to study.

Balance breadth with a deliberate elective plan

The current requirements specify 30 credits, divided between 15 credits of core breadth and 15 elective credits, in a non-thesis route. The admission pathway requires strong performance in designated coursework and additional degree-intent conditions. Ask which courses establish essential foundations and how the elective sequence supports your intended area. Availability, prerequisite knowledge and academic rules matter more than a long list of possible topics.

For a hypothetical fit exercise, choose one proposed use of AI and write an evaluation plan without building a product. Define the task, a simple comparison, the evidence needed and a failure that would make deployment inappropriate. Include whose data is involved and who might be affected by error. Identify which technical and ethical questions you cannot yet answer. Use them to discuss curriculum fit rather than assuming that any AI degree covers every current application.

Treat performance admission as graduate assessment

The university does not require a conventional prior-degree or test-score file for this route, but it describes substantial computing and mathematical preparation. Map your actual knowledge against those expectations. Previewing noncredit material can help you assess the starting point, while for-credit enrollment brings university assessment and financial commitments. Obtain the exact pathway and conversion rules before treating a completed platform course as progress toward the degree.

Ask about the working environment

Confirm required software, computing access, examination arrangements and the support offered when implementation problems arise. Find out how instructors assess work, how feedback is delivered and which live or group activities may constrain your schedule. This record does not infer the absence of campus, local or live obligations where the exact condition remains unverified. Establish those details before comparing the route with a fully flexible personal plan.

Keep the financial calculation dated

For Fall 2026, Spring 2027 and Summer 2027, the Bursar lists $525 per credit and no student fees for this Coursera program. Thirty standard credits produce $15,750. The figure excludes repeated or additional study and personal expenses. Ask which rate applies to your expected session, how withdrawal affects payment and whether your preparation plan involves courses outside the degree. A tuition estimate is not a forecast of what an AI role would pay you.

Compare specialization with another educational route

If you need broader computing foundations, inspect the MSCS. If your interests are predominantly statistical inference and the interpretation of evidence, compare the MSDS requirements. A focused course may answer a smaller immediate question. Explain why a full AI master’s is the appropriate scope and what work would demonstrate that you have learned something durable as tools change. Revisit that explanation after reading the current pathway and curriculum, then use the university’s enrollment instructions to resolve the remaining conditions.

A question to test the academic fit

Ask what resources support evaluating results when a model behaves unexpectedly. Implementation, mathematical explanation and ethical analysis are related but different tasks. A useful academic plan gives you a reason for each selected course and a way to explain what evidence would show that the combined study improved your understanding.

Official next steps and unresolved questions

Use the university’s official program and application instructions to confirm your route before committing. The field-check date is November 2, 2026. Missing price, attendance or location information is a question to resolve, not evidence that a charge or requirement is absent. A university’s decision about admission or professional eligibility cannot be replaced by this profile.

Computer Science

Choose an online computer science master’s by matching its technical depth and prerequisites to the computing problems you want to solve. A program designed for experienced programmers is a different route from one with an explicit bridge for applicants from other fields.
