Important in-person exception: program FAQ says the ISC 2 Certified in Cybersecurity exam must be taken at a live on-site proctored testing center. Other coursework/exams can be online. Testing center is not assumed to be university campus or a clinical placement; resolve exact individual requirements and accessibility before enrollment.

  • Six-month terms. Total degree charges depend on the number of terms. Program page lists an additional$200 e-books/resources fee each term; this is not a total-degree mandatory-fee amount.

Travel, living costs, supplies, financing, and future rate changes may affect your budget. Loans finance a price; they do not reduce it.

Admissions and preparation

Qualifying STEM/quantitative bachelor’s, or another bachelor’s plus relevant current IT certification or related IT coursework. GRE/GMAT not required. Verify accepted evidence and required external exam arrangements.

This degree combines technical security subjects with assurance and organizational decisions. Investigate it when you want structured advanced study and assessment across those areas. The important fit questions include your technical preparation, the work you want to practice and whether the assessment model suits you. Do not assume that a cybersecurity degree replaces relevant operational experience, an employer’s requirements or permission to perform security testing.

Check the current required work

The November 2026 catalog identifies 36 competency units. The program and guide describe technical architecture, secure systems, risk and governance, with a capstone and certification-related components. Ask which assessments are required in the version you would enter and how external examinations relate to degree completion. A course associated with a professional certification should not be treated as proof that the student already holds that credential.

For a hypothetical learning brief, describe a fictional service that needs to protect sensitive information. Identify an asset, threat, control and the evidence needed to judge whether the control works. Include an operational limitation and a governance responsibility. Use the brief to see where your understanding needs depth. Any practical exploration should use an authorized lab or approved environment; study does not grant permission to probe someone else’s system.

Verify the entry evidence

The university identifies qualifying STEM or quantitative degrees, or another bachelor’s combined with relevant certification or IT coursework. GRE/GMAT scores are not required. Obtain a determination of which route your documents satisfy and whether any additional preparation is needed before entry. A general interest in security or an unrelated degree should not be assumed equivalent to the stated technical background.

Read the in-person exception carefully

The current FAQ says all coursework and most exams can be completed online, but the ISC 2 Certified in Cybersecurity exam requires a live, on-site proctored testing center. Confirm whether that examination applies to your evaluated degree plan, how location and accessibility are handled and what rules govern accepted prior certification. This is a testing-center requirement, not evidence of a university campus visit or a clinical placement. It still matters to anyone needing every assessment to remain remote.

Plan time and price together

The current catalog lists$4,925 tuition per six-month term; the program page adds a$200 e-books/resources fee each term. A complete degree cost depends on the number of terms and the exact assessment plan, so no full total is established here. Ask how retakes, external exams, mentoring appointments and capstone revisions affect time and charges. Model a slower sequence as well as an accelerated one, and include travel for testing in the appropriate personal-expense scenario.

Compare the degree with other routes

A broader CS master’s may better match a goal involving computing foundations, while focused security coursework or certification preparation may address a narrower need. Compare required work and feedback, not only job-title lists. WGU’s institutional accreditation is separate from program-specific approvals; an ABET claim for an undergraduate program should not be applied to this master’s. Resolve the on-site examination, entry evaluation, current degree plan and complete financial scenario before applying. No individual security role, certification or earnings result follows automatically from graduation.

A question to test the academic fit

Ask how existing certification is evaluated before assuming that it removes a required examination or changes the degree plan. A current credential, accepted transfer and exemption from a particular assessment are separate determinations. Save the university’s exact evaluation and confirm that any revised remote-attendance and charge scenario follows from it.

Official next steps and unresolved questions

Use the university’s official program and application instructions to confirm your route before committing. The field-check date is November 2, 2026. Missing price, attendance or location information is a question to resolve, not evidence that a charge or requirement is absent. A university’s decision about admission or professional eligibility cannot be replaced by this profile.

Cybersecurity

An online cybersecurity master’s can emphasize hands-on technical defense, governance and risk, or a blend. Choose by the security work you want to do and the background the curriculum assumes, then verify labs and attendance requirements.
