Spring 2027 · General online graduate course rate; no residency differential. Prerequisites, mixed course rates and term registration fees require a personal plan.
- General online graduate course rate; no residency differential. Prerequisites, mixed course rates and term registration fees require a personal plan.
- Scenario: all graduate requirements completed in six registration terms; six $30 registration charges plus the listed $50 application charge. All foundations already accepted, no transfer reduction, no repeated courses, no rate increase, exclusively online participation. Confirm the exact approved course sequence and fee applicability before committing.
- Materials, equipment, travel and personal expenses are separate. Extra foundations or terms change the total; this is not a universal entrant price.
Travel, living costs, supplies, financing, and future rate changes may affect your budget. Loans finance a price; they do not reduce it.
Admissions and preparation
An accredited bachelor’s degree is required. Preparation includes precalculus, discrete mathematics, statistics, C programming and data structures, or equivalent experience where accepted. Students who lack the stated preparation may need additional undergraduate courses. Confirm the current test policy and all application conditions.
UMass Lowell’s online MS in Information Technology lists 30 graduate credits and specific mathematical and programming preparation. Investigate it for advanced systems study, and confirm how your background meets the course expectations before comparing the shortest route.
What technical work should you inspect?
The official curriculum groups study around systems, networks, software management and electives. Read the actual required choices and their prerequisites. Ask how students demonstrate the ability to analyze a system, implement a solution and explain tradeoffs. A general description of IT careers does not establish the technical depth of a particular sequence.
Define a responsibility you want to handle better, such as evaluating infrastructure, managing systems deployment or understanding a security requirement. Then connect that goal with required work. Compare computer science when deeper algorithms or computation are central, and cybersecurity when security practice is the primary purpose. A management-focused technology degree can provide a different balance from this technical route.
What preparation must be established?
The program specifies an accredited bachelor’s degree and preparation in precalculus, discrete mathematics, statistics, C programming and data structures, with equivalent experience considered where stated. Additional undergraduate coursework may be necessary when preparation is missing. Ask for the university’s assessment rather than assuming a job title or introductory programming course meets every condition.
Write down which topics you can demonstrate and where evidence or knowledge is missing. Ask whether preparation must be completed before application or before a particular course, what it costs and whether it adds to the 30-credit degree. Confirm current testing and official-record requirements. A preparation route is useful when its conditions are clear; it is not an automatic admission promise.
What makes the online experience feasible?
Confirm live sessions, demonstrations, examinations, group meetings and any local or campus activity. Ask how laboratories and computing resources are provided, which operating systems are required and when technical support is available. A computer suitable for lectures may not meet the requirements of every virtual environment.
Use authorized systems and data for technical work. A course project does not permit testing a public service or changing an employer’s production environment. If a workplace case is allowed, clarify scope, permission and confidentiality first. Ask how projects are supervised and how the work can remain feasible if your employment or access changes during the degree.
How should tuition and fees be planned?
The current Spring 2027 table lists a $610 general online graduate rate. MSIT course prefixes fall under science and mathematics in the university’s catalog rather than the listed engineering-rate prefixes. Thirty credits at $610 produce $18,300 in tuition. A six-registration-term scenario with $30 per term and a $50 general graduate application charge reaches an estimated $18,530 before personal expenses or additional preparation.
Confirm that your selected courses, application category and term plan match that scenario. Mixed prefixes, prerequisites, extra terms and future rate changes can alter the bill. The calculation does not imply that every applicant can finish on the same schedule. Compare the additional technical learning with a focused course sequence or another graduate route, and keep potential career advancement separate from confirmed funding.
Questions for the university
